Frank Ocean – Endless/Blond(e)

August 30th, 2016 by

Four years is a long time to wait for new music. Just the idea of new music from Frank Ocean was starting to distract from the singer’s very real talents as it was delayed and delayed again. The protracted rollout began to resemble a cruel psychological experiment and would ultimately prove to have entered into […]

Kanye West – The Life of Pablo

February 19th, 2016 by

On New Year’s Day last year, it felt like we were on the verge of Kanye West’s fatherhood album. Whether it’s Have One on Me, a Speakerboxxx/The Love Below or a Stadium Arcadium, a double album is usually underwritten by a breadth of ideas and […]

State’s New Music Mixtape #10

April 4th, 2014 by

Cruising – ‘You Made Me Do That’ That thick, belching guitar is perfect in a vacuum, but this stomper from supergroup Cruising (featuring members of Girls Names and September Girls) is three-and-a-half minutes of swaggering garage-rock turbulence. Creepoid – ‘Wet Bread’ Another swaggering rock track, and this one has a hint of QOTSA about it. […]

Hayden Thorpe sips from his wine glass and waves to the crowd. Around him, the other three members of Wild Beasts resuscitate ‘End Come Too Soon’.
