Podcast: 006 – Simon Maher (8Radio / Phantom 105.2)

The state of Irish radio is a constantly recurring topic of discussion so, for our sixth podcast, we thought we’d go to someone who knows more than most about the subject. Simon Maher started his broadcasting career in his bedroom and went on to found Phantom, the pirate station that went on to become a fixture of the Irish music scene before coming to a messy corporate end. Now the brains behind 8Radio (currently broadcasting on a temporary licence), Simon spoke to our editor-in-chief Phil Udell about what went right and what went wrong with Phantom, fighting to stay alternative and why internet radio is the way forward. It’s fascinating stuff.
