With their debut EP Waves Collide, Belfast’s Gnarkats have delivered a rounded, wholly enjoyable collection of alt-rock that doesn’t mess around. Not content with offering short, sharp bursts of melody, the four-piece have opted to instead follow gut-instincts and let tracks develop and build, allowing them room to breathe. The result is four tracks of rollicking riffs and lunging atmospherics – all executed with urgency and enviable skill.
Released tomorrow, 2nd December, it’s easy to see why they’ve been generating buzz. Gnarkats’ heady sonic aesthetic is certainly an inviting prospect – one which should see them develop and grow in 2017.
