Face of the Week – Paddy Hanna

As has become tradition, the start of January saw us bring you our Faces of 2014 – the twenty new Irish artists worth getting excited about this year. But that’s not the end of it. Such was the wealth of talent that we came across that the Faces feature will run throughout the year, with a new name every week, and in tandem with our monthly live shows at the Mercantile in Dublin. We kick off with a familiar face, albeit in a new form….

As a key member of the Popical Island collective, Paddy Hanna has featured in more Irish bands than most – including his main stint with Grand Pocket Orchestra. Somewhere along the way, however, he’s found time to record a debut solo album. Leafy Stilleto, launched last week in Dublin, takes the Popical Island lo-fi sound on an organic road trip – recorded in a swift three days. The record is out now on vinyl and download. Given his work rate, Hanna may well move on to something else sooner rather than later but he’s found rare form in this guise.
