2013: Top Story: Faces Of 2013: Soak

Adopting the stage name Soak to reflect her combination of soul and folk, sixteen year old Bridie Monds-Watson is perhaps one of the Irish names most likely to break out in the year ahead. Born in Belfast but raised in Derry, she began her musical career playing the open mic nights at the local Café del Mondo, before being ‘discovered’ via the Derry Playhouse’s ‘Jammhouse’ in early 2012. In the space of a year she has been championed by the Northern Irish media, promoters and been BBC Radio 1’s Introducing artist of the week. As Stuart Bailie puts it, “she manifests great talent the way that zebras wear stripes.”
