Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Bash, From Leaders of Men. Are ye well?
Who are your favorite artists from home?
Far too many to mention, Although I am loving Hozier’s record at the moment. So is the rest of the planet apparently!
What’s it really like touring?
It’s very exciting and not very glamorous. Sharing a van with 5 hairy men from Dublin is not as romantic as it sounds. Never the less, it’s full of banter and always an amazing experience to play in front of a different crowd in a different city every night.
What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?
It may sound cliché, but a home town crowd is always the most enjoyable for us. but this may change in the future, there are so many cities and countries we are yet to visit. When we have a hit in Asia I’ll get back to you.
What’s your ideal festival line-up?
Rick Astley, Steve Winwood, The Walkmen, Led Zeppelin, Interpol, Thievery Corporation, Fugees and Scooter for the after party.
What has been your biggest achievement of the year?
I’ve always wanted to attend the Reading & Leeds festival and always said that I wont attend until I was on the lineup. This year that happened. One ticked off the “life to do list” I suppose!
What was the worst piece of advice you were given?
A Dublin taxi driver once told me to give up the band and audition for the X-Factor. According to him, “no music gets outside of Ireland without Louis Walsh’s say so”. I rushed home to burn my guitar and sent in an application that night!
What do you do to relax?
Nothing fancy, Sleep! Spend time with friends and insult each other.
What are you reading?
Morrissey’s Autobiography. I’m one of those arseholes who claims he’s a Johnny Marr fan rather than a Morrissey one. I went to see him on Monday in the 3Arena and thought ‘Jaysus he’s a mad bastard. I’m gonna get his book’
How about TV, anything good on the box?
Nah, there are way too many videos of animals doing stupid shit on youtube to keep me busy!
Do you have a favourite YouTube video?
Yes. The one where the goat terrorizes that town in Brazil. That goat has absolutely no end goal, he’s genuinely just being an arsehole. I find this quite amusing.
What website do you visit most?
I find myself visiting Vice and Noisey a lot. Mainly to disagree with their articles and refer to them as hipsters. I’m also very aware that this is a very hipster thing to do.
What is your favourite:
Record? Jeff Buckley – Grace is up there.
Song? Jaysus! Erm.. Amerie – ‘One thing’. That’s a good song.
Lost classic song? ‘Smoke rings’ by The Mills Brothers.
Record label? Harvest Records. Only because after Morrissey had a falling out with them a few months ago, He made his band wear T-shirts saying “FUCK HARVEST RECORDS” on stage. Harvest Records now sell these T-shirts from their website. I think that’s a little bit genius.
Who is your favourite current artist?
A new artist that you are most excited about?
Girl Band! I find it pretty annoying that they’re from Dublin and I’m yet to see them live.
What was the last great gig you have seen?
Portishead at picnic, I’ll remember that one for a good while id imagine.
A mate of mine dragged me to see the Vaccines in the Olympia, Nuff said.
What should we expect from your Irish shows?
Loud guitars, loud drums and loud shapes.
You can catch Leaders of Men live in Dublin’s Workmans Club on December 11th. You can find tickets here.
Leaders of Men were photographed by Ellius Grace.
