Interview: Incoming – MØ

Who are you and where are you from?

I am Karen Marie Ørsted, and I’m from an Island in Denmark called Funen.

Who are your favorite artists from home?

Broke, Reptile Youth, De Høje Hæle, Sekouia, ELOQ, Iceage, Cola Freaks.

What’s it really like touring?

Hard for your body, good for your soul

What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?

New York is way cool and the people are fresh. I like the NYC venue Glasslands – I’ve played it two times, and both times was magical.

What’s your ideal festival line-up?

Sonic Youth, Santigold, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Major Lazer, the xx.

Tell us a tour story…

My royal and great ginger DJ(/Technician-musician/computer-controller) got so drunk last year at the CMJ Festival in NYC, that he had to throw up, sleep on a random toilet, eat a burger, a pile of French fries, a salad, a big ice cream and drink a gallon of milk to get better. That was funny.

What has been your biggest achievement of the year?

My collaboration with Diplo/Major Lazer and stage diving.

What was the worst piece of advice you were given?

“Try to fit in.”

What do you do to relax?

Watch television.

What are you reading?

H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

How about TV, anything good on the box?

South Park, Family Guy, American Dad – all that shit. I love it.

Do you have a favourite YouTube video?

No, yeaaah, not really. I like the ‘Jaboody Dubs’ stuff.

What website do you visit most? (discounting email, etc.)

YouTube, I think. Not that much on the internet besides email stuff and social network stuff.

What is your favourite…

It varies, depending on mood and so on. Right now I think it’s ‘Starstruck’ by Santigold.

Lost classic song?

‘Rock the Casbah’ by the Clash.

Record label?

Chess Club.

Who is your favourite current artist?

A new artist that you are most excited about?

MS MR, Elliphant, Banks, King Krule.

What was the last great gig you have seen?

Reptile Youth at Dcode festival, Madrid,

Worst show?

I don’t wanna hurt anybody’s feelings,

What should we expect from your Irish shows?

Energy and intensity should be my biggest wish to give to you.
