Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Patty McGee, drummer in Stars and I’m from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Who are your favourite artists from your hometown?
What’s it really like touring?
It’s like being a claustrophobic potato most of the time. It can also be like being in a submarine that shoots torpedoes of drunken fun at people for an hour and a half every night.
What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?
I love playing the Fillmore in San Francisco. It’s just a beautiful room in a beautiful city that has had so much acid done in it you’re almost guaranteed a free flashback.
What’s your ideal festival line-up?
Prince, Converge, Willie Nelson, D’Angelo, Car Bomb, Neil Young (solo), Venetian Snares, Frank Ocean, Robyn… that’s only a festival of the living.
Tell us a tour story…
Tour stories are secret.
What has been your biggest achievement of the last year?
Building a legless floating counter island that sticks straight out of the wall in my kitchen.
What do you do to relax?
Smoke hash and work in the garden.
What are you reading?
A Feast For Crows. Embarrassing but true. It’s brutal because I start a book and can’t stop till it’s done. Well this book is actually seven one thousand page books. It’s taking forever but I do love titties and swords.
How about TV, anything good on the box?
I love Girls. I’m also back onto Ebichu, a demented Japanese cartoon about a housekeeping hamster.
What’s the last thing you bought online?
Firestix. Glow in the dark drumsticks.
Who would you most like to collaborate with if you got the chance?
What is the worst cover your band has ever performed?
We rarely do covers except in soundcheck to annoy Torq. Blues and grunge are the most effective.
Have you ever trashed your equipment? When and why?
Nope. We’ve trashed other people’s equipment though.
What is your favourite…
…album of the last year?
It was Channel Orange by Frank Ocean but w^w^^w^w by Car Bomb has just eclipsed it. And I haven’t even heard the new converge yet.
It continues to be an epic battle between ’212′ by Azealia Banks, ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepson and ‘Wide Awake’ by Katy Perry. Taylor Swift is also making moves with ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’. The ladies are really dominating the charts.
… Record label?
I don’t really have one. I do love Alternative Tentacles’ logo though.
Today it’s Car Bomb.
A new artist that you are most excited about?
What was the last great gig you saw?
Converge at La Tulipe in Montréal.
What should we expect from your Irish show?
Tequila soaked, disco ball spinning unadulterated fun.
Stars play Dublin Academy on November 30th.
