Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Eli, and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
Who are your favourite artists from your hometown?
There’s a great indie-pop band from Cincinnati called Bad Veins who put out an incredible record last year called The Mess We’ve Made. They do quite a bit of touring with Two Door Cinema Club in the States. Another band I’m quite fond of is WHY?, who are currently on tour and are really amazing live.
What’s it really like touring?
We love to tour. Having the opportunity to play a new place and meet new people every night is pretty awesome. On the flip side, we’re seldom home, and we all miss our friends and families a lot. So it’s kind of a double-edged sword – serious highs with great shows and serious lows with the loneliness of being on the road.
What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?
We really enjoy playing the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. It’s got great sound, and the DC audience is always crazy.
What’s your ideal festival line-up?
Beginning of the day through the after-party: Haim > Little Dragon > The Postal Service > The Killers > Major Lazer
Tell us a tour story…
Last time we toured Europe, our drummer Sean managed to lose, over the course of several weeks, all of his most important possessions: his glasses, his wallet, his cell phone, and, finally, every pair of pants he owned. The pants were lost in an epic battle with a washing machine in Austria. A major focus of the next European tour will be keeping Sean’s belongings with him.
What has been your biggest achievement of the last year?
Playing MTV Unplugged last year was a huge honour. We all grew up watching Unplugged performances, so being asked to do one ourselves really made us feel good.
What do you do to relax?
We play a lot of FIFA on Xbox. We’re also into Shameless, Game of Thrones, and Breaking Bad.
What are you reading?
A couple of us are pretty involved in the Walking Dead graphic novels.
How about TV, anything good on the box?
Too much good stuff. Like I said, Shameless, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and Walking Dead.
What’s the last thing you bought online?
A new pedalboard for my guitar rig!
Who would you most like to collaborate with if you got the chance?
We would love to collaborate with Little Dragon at some point.
What is the worst cover your band has ever performed?
We did a pretty weak version of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, though it did feature a wicked guitar solo.
Have you ever trashed your equipment? When and why?
Not yet! There was a long time where Nick would break a keyboard every few gigs, but that was because he was sweating so much that the moisture would get between the keys and shut the instrument down. Eventually, we figured out that if we give him sweatbands and put a fan on him, the instruments will last a little longer.

I spend a lot of time communicating with fans on Twitter.
