Dublin based quartet, Montauk Hotel shared their self-titled debut E.P. recently and we’ve been big fans of this up and coming band since they released their introductory single, ‘Black Dress’ in January of this year. Their sound is influenced by the softer pop-disco side of the eighties, perfect for summer listening and of course, the festival season.
Montauk Hotel is a fine debut, consisting of four tracks (one aptly named, ‘1984’) that show great promise so early on in their tenure as a band writing and recording music. There are traces of The Smiths and The Cure throughout their music however the songs never veer towards pastiche and maintain modernity. If you’re already a fan of Alvvays or Best Coast, then Montauk Hotel will complete the trinity.
