We couldn’t be happier that PORTS, one of our Faces of 2016, are doing so well and gaining the traction they’ve worked hard for. It’s pleasing too that the Derry indie outfit aren’t just focusing on the recording studio and are fully committing to a wider scope of creativity, namely, with this exclusive first showing of their new video for ‘Kingdom’, produced by Paul Martin Brown. The tale of precocious, child-like adventure and wonderment is matched perfectly by the track’s melodic fluctuations and delicate crescendo. It’s atmospheric and well-rounded – vocal harmonies dance and flit across waves of vibrant guitar and string arrangements. It drips with a melancholia that is affective too, bringing you back to days carefree and built around nothing but imagination – a bittersweet testimony of youth now far gone, memories faded – a childhood perhaps not ever fully realised.
A truly beautiful offering from PORTS, who have said of the track, “‘Kingdom’ is based on the idea of a child that is having his joy squashed. His time to explore, play, be a child is being jeopardised because of a parents busy lifestyle, the parent has lost touch with that side of themselves and they don’t understand their child’s needs to explore their imagination. It also shows a child’s ability to dream, and imagine what they would do if given the chance to explore, to build their own kingdom.”
