Rory Grubb and his music aren’t a new phenomena. In fact, the Dublin singer-songwriter has been making his brand of vibrant and experimental folk-pop since 2005. Although somewhat under the radar as of late, his return to form is a purposeful one. With new album Water House set for release on June 24th (from a few cursory listens it’s sounding fantastic), Rory has shared both lead single ‘Childlike You’ and an accompanying video that posits a distinctly colourful and esoteric musical pace.
Ditching the guitar as his primary instrument in favour of toy and sampler keyboards, custom-made instruments and studio experimentation, Grubb is creating whimsical, melodically-charged compositions that are sonically rich, lyrically playful, but have a depth of focus that’s widely appealing – perhaps no better translated by ‘Childlike You’.
Have a listen and watch the video below to get a taste of Grubb’s new musical direction.
Water House will be officially released on Friday 24th June 2016, through his own label (Brightnight), on Vinyl LP and Digital, with 2 live shows to mark the release:
• Bello Bar, Dublin – 24th June, with special guests.
• Red Door Theatre, Thomastown, Kilkennny – 25th June, with special guests.
