Belfast’s Shadow Police are something of a breath of fresh air as electronic-indie music grows increasingly commercially sterile. The duo of Daniel Thornton and Matthew Duly, fresh-faced as they may be, are distinctly aware of their chosen genre’s electro-pop forefathers, and latest track ‘Dead Dance’ betrays a nod to the kind of melodic, shimmering timbres of most of what Vince Clarke has turned his hand to. But it’s the more angular approach to house and disco that cuts through the track, squarely aimed at the dancefloor and garnering Shadow Police a growing fanbase around their hometown.
Recently featured by NI’s Across The Line, it’s easy to see (and hear) why Shadow Police are on the cusp of bigger things, and don’t be surprised if you catch them on across “Ones To Watch” features later in the year and through to 2018.
For now, and until more live dates crop up, familiarise yourself.
