Premiere time, and we have from Drogheda’s Sights Distorted for your listening pleasure this morning. The band’s debut album, Last Light, is an elusive beast that takes on many guises across its 12 tracks. It can be disturbingly tense, heavy and pulsating or oddly dancable but rarely does it stay in one place for long.
In the band’s words: “Music is emotion and the dissection of that emotion is at the heart of what Sights Distorted do. The band attempt to combine visceral and melodic contrasts in their sound to underpin the chaos at the heart of experience.”
The album was recorded, programmed, mixed and produced by frontman David O’Brien, which means that each and every aspect of Last Light was moulded by the band. Slithering between dance-pop and post-rock, industrial and ambient, Last Light forges its own unique identity by being greater than the sum of its parts.
Sights Distorted are David O’Brien (vocals, programming, synth), Dave Hanratty (drums) and Garry Toner (keys). Last Light‘s cover artwork is ‘The Space and Time Around Us’ (pictured above) by Russian artist Mikhail Evstafiev (http://www.evstafiev.com/), reprinted with kind permission of Evstafiev.
