We’ve been a bit spoiled for mixes lately at State. Our last came courtesy of none other that eclectically minded turntable botherer t-woc, and our latest is similar in stature, in that it’s been lovingly put together by a fellow Open Ear festival artist; Sinéad Meaney, an audiovisual artist, DJ and creative producer from Dublin, Ireland, whose work has been featured at some of the most renowned institutions across the globe.
We couldn’t be happier with the selection – it’s at time terse, uncompromising, but firmly rooted in the idea of a fun shared musical experience for all. Or as Sinéad puts it far better than us..
“It takes ‘the occasional dance floor banger’ term literally, a mini mix for Open Ear blending the old school, (Irish?) and experimental – a tongue in cheek inclusion of The Prodigy – as well as Irish electronic music duo Lakker (and Arad) who’ve been flying the flag and pushing the envelope for top quality Irish electronic music abroad over the last few years…
“I guess for me personally, after spending the last few years living in Berlin – it is refreshing and exciting to return to Ireland and see such an innovative initiative like Open Ear being launched in a special place like Sherkin Island, and with such a strong and tasteful selection of Irish artists. Something like this takes a lot of courage and belief, especially as it’s going against the usual grain, so kudos to Chris and crew for putting it all together.”
Enough from us, get stuck in.
