Seeing as it’s the long weekend we’ve gathered a few tunes for that long drive, pottering about the garden or just kicking back with a cold one. Inspired by the chillwave/hypnagogic/glo-fi scene going on State-side, it’s a tranquil collection to say the least – so don’t adjust your sets.
A few names will pop up a more than once, they are close-circle, obliging each other with remixes and covers. Memoryhouse (who have just been added to the Oxegen line-up – odd) are at the forefront of the scene, remixing Mathemagic and Cloud Nothings but deliver the ultimate sedative with ‘Lately (troisieme version)’ – in saying that, Active Child could tip them to the post. Dublin’s Solar Bears open with a FUR remix and close with the sublime ‘Crystaline Be Mine’. Tanlines and Memory Tapes do swapsies, FUR’s mate Coyote Clean Up shake it up a bit while Patrick Kelleher and Jape collide. ‘The Kiss’ by Pallers is a superb chilled out pop gem, Neuveaunoise and Baths keep the mood buoyant leaving Wild Nothing to inject some jangly C86 guitars. New hipsters on the block, sunvisor, bring us on a ‘Sky Dive’, the Pure Ecstasy track is meltingly good and The Books have some kind words for us. Catherine A.D. is included for the sheer beauty of her Hurts cover and it woudn’t be a chillwave collection without Toro y Moi or Washed Out.
