Late last year we introduced you Courtship, the San Franciscan based producer with a penchant for smooth stylish covers and dark, downbeat tunes – most recently delivering a version of Shellac’s ‘Prayer To God’ but turning it on it’s with head with building despondency as waves of beats and synths sweep in. (You can stream that here.)
Currently working on his second EP Courtship took time out for State giving some insight to his influences with a classic ambient, looped guitars, haunting ballads, sweet R&B, tropical sounds, dubstep and electronica mix all in one appeasing parcel – a gratifying and emotive listen.
Brian Eno – ‘Ambient 1/2’ (played at 45rpm)
Don Caballero – ‘The Peter Criss Jazz’ (looped)
Ghosts and Vodka – ‘Nicholas Prefers Dinosaurs’
Modest Mouse – ‘Sleepwalking’
Chris Isaak – ‘Wicked Game’
Songs: Ohia – ‘Coxcomb Red’
Burial – ‘In McDonalds’ vs. The-Dream – ‘Put it Down’
Boards of Canada – ‘In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country’
Tristeza – ‘Muerte en Tu Sueño’
