Incoming: The Octopus Project

Who are you and where are you from?

We are the Octopus Project!  (I, specifically, am Toto Miranda.) We are from Texas.

Who are your favourite artists from home?

Some Austin favourites include Hidden Ritual, Deep Time, Tia Carrera and Tele Novella.  All worth a Google if you’re looking for adventurous sounds!

What’s it really like touring?

Touring is wonderful, we really love it!  It’s a weird lifestyle and not without its stressful and/or boring moments, but the chance to travel, meet people and play music in new places is well worth it.  The highs and lows all get wrapped up in the adventure – the occasional bad situation eventually just becomes a hilarious story.

What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?

I don’t think we have a single favorite – we had a wonderful time in Ireland last year and are thrilled to be returning!

What’s your ideal festival line-up?

It would depend on the invention of time travel, but I’d like to see Led Zeppelin circa 1971, Fela Kuti circa 1977, and Wu-Tang Clan circa 1993.  Deerhoof headlines in their contemporary form.

What has been your biggest achievement of the year?

We got a new member in guitarist Lauren Gurgiolo – super excited to be working on new music with her in the mix, that feels like a wonderful achievement!

What do you do to relax?

I do like going to the movies, unfortunately it’s a bit of a dry spell at the theater right now.  Time to go on tour then!

What are you reading?

I just bought a book called Conversational Portuguese in 7 Days…we have a couple weeks till we go to Portugal so that should be plenty of time to get fluent, right?

How about TV, anything good on the box?

Enjoying Mr. Robot, I think?  Can’t quite tell how I feel about it but I’m definitely invested.

Do you have a favourite YouTube video?

What website do you visit most? (discounting email etc)

Probably YouTube for some tutorial or another  – always something new to learn!

What is your favourite:

These answers are always changing, but here’s current information:

Yonatan Gat – Director

Righeira – No Tengo Dinero

Lost classic song?

Righeira – Italians A-Go-Go

Record label?

Analog Africa

A new artist that you are most excited about?

Wray from Birmingham, Alabama are pretty wonderful.

What was the last great gig you have seen?

I saw a group called Man Forever – Drum kit, bongos and snare drum with all three members singing.  They played one 30 min song and it was awesome.

Worst show?

Donald Trump, generally speaking

What should we expect from your Irish shows?

Psychedelic party rock music, electronic beep-boops and good times at high volumes.  We love Ireland, come jam with us!

The Octopus Project play Clonakilty International Guitar Festival on Friday 18th September @ DeBarra’s 11pm and admission is free.
