Purveyors of energetic synth pop, Irish quartet Vann Music spent much of 2014 taking to stages across the country, building a substantial following in the process. With a new, Stephen Hague produced release on the way, we asked them to compile us a mini-playlist of their current listening pleasure…
m83 – ‘Midnight City’
This is quintessential m83. A stunning production and mix by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, the Kooks, the Thrills), this song holds a special place in each of our hearts individually, and also collectively as a band. Sonically the track is a huge influence on the band – it’s like a cinema for your ears.
Todd Terje – ‘Inspector Norse’
Made entirely on one synth – the Arp 2600 – this tune is the embodiment of joy. I can’t help but smile whenever I hear it. Every melody, every sound, has a tangible personality. There’s even a documentary (Whateverest) about the fascinating real life Inspector Norse.
Gaz Coombes – ‘The Girl Who Fell To Earth’
The blend of acoustic & electronic hooks you in right from the start. When Gaz sings the lyric on the second verse (“First you cry & then you laugh, you’re like a circle cut in half”) it’s game over. A thing of pure beauty.
Summer Heart – ‘Los Angeles Lies’
A cocoon of luscious dreamy synth pop. It always takes us to a place of zen.
We only recently discovered Summer Heart and they will remain on our Spotify indefinitely. Go listen to them!
Little Dragon – ‘Paris’
We caught them at Vicar street last November and they blew us away. Endless amounts of synthy hooks and the drummer kicked all kinds of ass. Paris is a stand out tune…if you haven’t heard it, get on it!
