Sunday night saw us collaborate with the Hope Collective to put on one of 251 We Shall Overcome shows taking place over one weekend, all designed to help local homeless organisations and food banks – in our case the Dublin Simon Community and March For The Homeless. We also collected for the Dublin Calais Refugee Solidarity group and Human Appeal.
From Homecomings spirited acoustic punk opening set it was quite the night. Damola brought a funky hip-hop edge, M(h)aol were incredible at what was their first ever live show, Anti-One mixed rap, rock and pure passion, The Winter Passing proved why they’ve produced our very favourite album of the moment and Dah Jevu topped off the night in fine fashion. In addition we had Niall McGuirk, Nialler 9, Young Hearts Run Free, Aidan Kelly, Claire Beck, Eoin Monaghan and Mark Sherlock on the decks plus some revolutionary cakes.
The results were staggering. Not only did we collect boxes of donations but also raised €664 on the night, which has been boosted to over €900 thanks to our friends in the trade union movement. Thanks to every single person who took part, helped us set it up and came along. See you next year and, as the song by the Winter Passing says, keep singing.
