Clare Maguire – The Sugar Club, Dublin

CLARE MAGUIRE SUGAR CLUB SHOW RE-SCHEDULED: NEW DATE APRIL 10TH
Rising star Clare Maguire’s Sugar Club date has been re-scheduled to April 10th, all tickets for the original March 28th date remain valid.
Described by the NME as ‘A mainstream – leaning, electro-flecked amalgam of Eurythmics, Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac and Florence’, Clare Maguire is set to storm the UK and Irish music scene in 2011.
It’s all about the voice. A big, blues belter of a voice, a voice that’s lived a little, that knows things, that hints huskily of hidden mysteries. It was the voice that drew people in, when they heard its siren call over MySpace, and producers who got in touch asking for guest vocals were always surprised to find that it belonged to a slip of a girl from a large Irish family in Birmingham.
After fierce competition from other labels, she signed to Polydor at the age of 20. What followed were two years of travelling, writing, recording and searching for a sound that felt right for her. In LA, she met Rick Rubin, who played her unreleased Johnny Cash demos and invited her to come with him to watch Leonard Cohen in rehearsal. In New York, Jay Z invited her for drinks in his restaurant and told her she had star quality: he could see it in her eyes.
Following the release of her debut single ‘Ain’t Nobody’ in October, Clare has been heavily tipped for big things. She was recently named as both Q magazine and HMV’s ‘Next Big Thing’ and has been shortlisted in MTV’s Brand New For 2011 and finished in the top 5 in the BBC Sound of 2011 Poll. Her incredible vocals are also featured on the new Streets album and forthcoming album from Chase & Status.
“Talent’s like this don’t come around often.” – The Irish Times

‘By the end of 2011, Clare Maguire will be likely to be as well known as Florence + the machine, Adele and Amy Winehouse. Clare’s big dramatic voice (is) one that belies her tender years.” Daily Mirror
