Ragged Words: The Ruby Suns, Sounds Of System Breakdown – Twisted Pepper, Dublin

Ragged Words presents:
THE RUBY SUNS
Sounds Of System Breakdown
The Twisted Pepper, Dublin
May 27

As announced by On The Record last week, Ragged Words are very excited to be joining the good fight of bringing exciting music to Irish shores, stretching about as far as possible to tempt the ever-inventive New Zealand sunshine poppers The Ruby Suns (Sub Pop/Memphis Industries) to Dublin’s Twisted Pepper on Thursday, May 27.

The Kiwis, led by songwriter, producer and barer of the most apt of names Ryan McPhun, return for their first Irish show in over a year-and-a-half with a third album under their belts, the very fine and indeed very different Fight Softly. Following on from 2008’s breakthrough Sea Lion – an album that perfected the band’s then trademark Beach Boys played with African rhythms sound – the Ruby’s new album is (as Ryan recently told Ragged Words) a slightly harsher affair and after REPEATED listens, we’d argue its his most compelling work to date.

Currently being supported by Chillwave protégé Toro Y Moi on a long US tour, The Ruby Suns have a number of prior European engagements to warm them up for May 27’s show where they will be joined by Sounds Of System Breakdown who brought the house down at Ragged Words last Saturday night stint at The Twisted Pepper.

Ticket are just 12 euro (plus booking fee) and are available now at http://tickets.ie/event.aspx/the-ruby-suns-the-twisted-pepper-dublin-27-May-2010/7CEGJ.
