The Jolly Boys – The Button Factory, Dublin

Following their hit show at this year’s Electric Picnic Festival, veteran Mento greats THE JOLLY BOYS have announced two Irish shows in December- Friday 11th December at THE PAVILLION, Cork, and Saturday 12th December at THE BUTTON FACTORY, Dublin.

The Jolly Boys began playing in the early 1940s in Port Antonio, Jamaica, and to this day remain the most prominent exemplars and torchbearers of the Jamaican folk musical style of Mento- a sound that pre-dated and influenced everything from ska to reggae to dance hall.

The group are famously remembered as the house band that entertained tourists at the Trident Hotel in the 1950s, and performed early into the morning at the Hollywood style soirées thrown by Errol Flynn at his local estate.

Now well into their 60s and 70s, The Jolly Boys have been signed to the same label as Grace Jones and Human League. Their new album “Great Expectation” was released in September.
