Dreadful gig. A ‘technical hitch’ early in the set served to highlight how much of the music was actually being played live – most of the keys and all of the backing vocals (masking the weak main vocal) were just a backing track. The disappointment amongst the crowd was quite obvious – and while the singles were all reasonably well received, you couldn’t help but feel you were just listening to the album on playback. Although Pip and her three-piece band gained an early sympathy vote for turning up (their plane was diverted from Dublin to Belfast, and they had only arrived shortly before the gig started) they scored an own goal with a lacklustre performance. For anyone who couldn’t bag a ticket for the sold out show – be glad you have that €15.45 in your pocket.
