Fronted by Adam & The Ants members Marco Pirroni and Chris Constantinou, The Wolfmen may not be at the cutting edge of modern music but, judging by the amount of old school t-shirts and tattoos on display at the historic 100 Club, they still hold a place in many hearts. Making a rare appearance to launch their second album Married To The Eiffel Tower (including a duet with Sinead O’Connor), the absence of driving force Pirroni – who has retired from live performance – does little to subdue the atmosphere.
Instead The Wolfmen’s pedigree is evident as Chris Constantinou confidently swaggers and pouts his way through the set and the razor edge of vintage guitar is soothed in a balm of flute, harmonium and all manner of worldly goodness. Ex-Long Blondes Kate Jackson provides guest vocals which only adds to the fun, as the tightly packed audience of old punks, young punks, freaks and outsiders lap it up.
The Wolfmen begin their residency at Alley Cat, Denmark St in London on Sept 3rd.
