A Tribute to Levon Helm @ The Sugar Club

April 16th will see the Sugar Club host a tribute night to Levon Helm, drummer and vocalist with the legendary Americana act The Band, that will feature a whole host of excellent musicians take to the stage with all proceeds going to The Irish Cancer Society.

Performances will come from The Academic, Gavin Glass, Square Pegs (featuring Graham Hopkins (The Frames) and Colm Quearney (ex-Lir), The Group (Last Waltz Tribute Act), The Drays (the new vehicle for former Stars Of Heaven and Revenants man Stephen Ryan ), Carol Keogh, Rag Mama Rag and with some more very special guests to be announced. Each act will perform music from all stages of Levon’s career, from early act The Hawks (with Ronnie Hawkins) through to his final solo output.

MC duties are being handled by Kevin McGahern of Republic of Telly fame and after the live entertainment, DJ Karl Tsigdinos will play a selection of songs by Levon, The Band and friends late into the night.

Levon’s work with the seminal outfit includes the classic albums Music From Big Pink, The Band and The Last Waltz. In addition, he had a successful solo career; his last three solo albums Dirt Farmer, Electric Dirt and Ramble At The Ryman were all Grammy Award winners. Find out more here.
