Birdy covers the XX’s track ‘Shelter’

The soulful songstress Birdy aka Jasmine Van den Bogaerde has recorded a cover of The XX’s ‘Shelter’ which is due for release in early July. The rawness of this track mixed with the haunting piano is an impressive interpretation of the original and showcases her vocals and delivery style which appears to far exceed her tender age of 15.

The Hampshire born girl comes from a family of musicians and has been playing the piano since she was four. She has gained an array of prominent music fans, most notably in the form of Fearne Cotton, since she released an exceptional cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ in April this year.

The song received over 3.5 million views on YouTube combined and has sold over 150,000 copies in the UK.

Birdy is currently working on her hotly anticipated debut album with James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Last Shadow Puppets and Klaxons) and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys).
