Buddy Holly tribute album, watch Florence Welch’s ‘Not Fade Away’ video

Had Buddy Holly not died in 1959 at the age of 22, he would be 75 years old this year – September 7th to be exact. A tribute album has been compiled entitled Rave On Buddy Holly, featuring My Morning Jacket, The Black Keys, Modest Mouse, Nick Lowe, Cee Lo Green, Paul McCartney, She & Him, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Julian Casablancas and more (full tracklisting and embedded player below).

Far from being a straight-up covers record, each track is an interpretation by the artist and guest producers which include Matt Sweeney, Joe Henry and Jack White.

Film-music Randall Poster over saw the project, he said, “As the tracks from various contributors were gathered for the album, we seemed to be gathering pieces of a complex and original puzzle traces back to the roots of rock and roll and shapes so much of the music that followed.”

Rave On Buddy Holly will be released on Fantasy/Concord on June 28th – check out

Florence Welch recorded ‘Not Fade Away’ when passing through New Orleans on last year’s Florence and the Machine North American tour. The track was produced by Louisiana native C.C. Adcock and captures the Cajun influence of the city.
