    So very very sad.
I worked with Derek for many years and have to say i found him to be one of the most honest and approachable people in the music business in Ireland. He was very generous with his time for many people and bands.
My thoughts go out to his wife and family.RIP.
    Your friend Neil

  • I just can not believe this. R.I.P. Derek.

    A gentleman.

    A professional.

A tireless champion of Irish talent.

Derek was a great guy to work with and over the last 20 plus years he promoted a lot of shows by my artists and always went the extra mile.
My condolences to his family and many friends.

I’ve known DEREK since we both went to secondary school in TRIM Co.Meath in the early 60’s.Our conversations ,even then, were always about music which was a big part of both our lives. So sad to think we will never again see him handing out his leaflets outside WHELANS,ROCK ON DEREK and thanks for all the great gigs…

Fond memories of Derek doing DJ in the Boot disco in the Wellington Court Hotel,Trim. Sympathies to his family and his friends. A legend gone to the skies….

  • I’m away for the summer, but I can’t believe Derek – concert promoter, band manager, and manager of Whelan’s – won’t be around when I get back to Dublin in autumn. Decent bloke, no side to him (strange in this, or indeed any, business), and he always saw me right. He knew an awful lot too, and wasn’t uptight about sharing it. Sincere condolences to his family. The question is: who can take his place?
