Gig news roundup: Lunice, Actress, Henry Rollins, Pinback, Michael Kiwanuka, East African fundraiser & more

Harmonic have just announced a show that will serve as a Concern fundraiser for East Africa: And So I Watch You From Afar, Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands, Retarded Cop, Tieranniesaur
Toby Kaar, Spies, We Are Losers, The Last Days Of 1984, Moths, Great Lakes Mystery, SertOne, Alarmist, White Collar Boy , Daithi , Angkorwat & more will play in an all-day Whelan’s show on Sunday August 25th. Tickets are €15 plus fees. More info.

Sam Amidon plays The Sugar Club on September 17th with a special AV show.Support on the night is from Elaine Mai. Tickets are €16.50 plus fees.

Hot new soul musician Michael Kiwanuka plays The Grand Social on October 20th. We’ve been really impressed by his first few songs and the boy sure does sound like a Ugandan-born Bill Withers. Tickets are €14.50 plus fees on sale now.

Harmonic are also bringing over San Diego’s Pinback to the Button Factory on December 1st. Tickets: €16.50 plus fees.

Chris Thile (of the Punch Brothers) and guitarist Michael Davies (site) hit Whelan’s on September 14th. The duo collaborated on an album of “16 high-octane interpretations of bluegrass classics ” for Nonesuch which was recorded at Jack White’s Third Man studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Tickets: €15 plus fees.

Henry Rollins will perform a spoken word show The Long March at Vicar Street on January 22nd, 2012. Tickets are €24.90 on sale tomorrow.

UK Grime MC Skepta will be on hand to launch a new R&B clubnight in The Academy, Dublin on Friday 30th September alongside Dj Ahmed. All Star At The Academy will take place the last Friday of every month. Tickets are €12 on sale now.

    Great that you announce them but how come state doesn’t put all the gigs it previews/reviews in its listings section? It’s hard to find decent listings for Dublin.

  • Hey Isabel, we’ve all but abandoned the listings section at this stage. The reason being is that State is a part-time enterprise and the dedication required to keeping a listing section up to date is a full-time job in itself. Besides I think it’s better to curate and point to things that are of interest to State readers rather than overload you with shows.
