James Blake wins the Mercury Prize

James Blake has won the 2013 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for his second album, Overgrown. The London post-dubstep producer beat out favourites Laura Mvula and Arctic Monkeys as well as lone Irish nominees Villagers to win the award for best album by a British or Irish artist, now in its 22nd year.

The other nominees were: Arctic Monkeys’ AM; David Bowie’s The Next Day; Disclosure’s Settle; Foals’ Holy Fire; Jake Bugg’s Jake Bugg; Jon Hopkins’ Immunity; Laura Marling’s Once I Was an Eagle; Laura Mvula’s Sing to the Moon; Rudimental’s Home; Savages’ Silence Yourself, and Villagers’ {Awayland}.
