Listen: Beach House – “Sparks”

It can sometimes feel a little surreal that the same band behind the dreamy pop soundscapes of 2010’s Teen Dream are also responsible for the heavyweight indie rock of 2012’s Bloom, but Beach House have managed to retain and refine their sound even as that sound continues to morph from album to album.

To that end, they’ve released the first single from their upcoming album Depression Cherry, and ‘Sparks’ has somehow managed to retain the DNA of both of their recent incarnations. While the heavy but seemingly unstructured guitar rips through the opening minute, it’s not long before singer Victoria Legrand’s almost ghostly vocals take the track in a far more emotionally euphoric direction.

Expect more of the same when Depression Cherry is released in full on August 28th.
