An exhibition of music photography (‘What We Did In The Shadows’) is open in the Bernard, Shaw on Richmond St, Dublin 2 from this coming Friday, 26 Jan. It features some of State’s most industrious names in shooting-from-the-pit – Leah Carroll and Kieran Frost as well as Kathrin Baumbach, Colm Kelly, Lucy Foster and James Murray.
It showcases some of the captivating end results of their lives in the no-mans-land between artist and audience, for those three songs. The beleaguered live photographer is beset on all sides by bad lighting, difficult shooting positions, and a fast turnaround but yet we at State’s photo desk have found that the more obstacles in their way, often the better the results are and these guys have cleared many an obstacle to bring us a photo that captures an entire gig and all the emotions that go with it.
Get along to find such images of Grace Jones, Stormzy, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode (above, by Leah Carroll), St. Vincent, Goldfrapp, The National, Future Islands U2, Girl Band, Sinead O’Connor and London Grammar amongst many others.
The exhibition will be on view from the 26th of January until February 21st 2018 at The Bernard Shaw and is free to visit.
