Maria Doyle Kennedy to release Sing, featuring Damien Rice, on August 17th

Singer Maria Doyle Kennedy seems to be one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets. The raven-haired Dubliner is probably more familiar to most as either the evil Mrs Bates from Downton Abbey, Katherine of Aragon from The Tudors, or Muriel Bately from the ITV mini-series Titanic. That’s all set to change with the release of her forthcoming album, Sing, a collection of ten newly crafted songs co-written with her husband Kieran Kennedy and featuring duets with Damien Rice, John Prine and Paul Brady.

Having furrowed an acting career for herself Doyle Kennedy is now hoping to remind us that she is a singer first and foremost and, although this marks her UK début, this is her fifth solo album to be released in Ireland on her own label, Mermaid Records. The single ‘Sing’ is released on August 17th with the album following suit on August 24th. You can catch Maria Doyle Kennedy live on September 29th at Vicar Street, Dublin.
