Marina and The Diamonds posts new song ‘Fear and Loathing’

Marina and The Diamonds has returned under the moniker Electra Heart and a song/video ‘Fear and Loathing’ which she posted to her website. The video watches her apply makeup in a hotel bathroom before chopping her long locks into a messy bob haircut. The theme of the song is ‘change’ and it appears to be the prologue to Marina’s new album. She commented via her website that ‘”Electra Heart” embodies the lies, illusions and death of an American Dream.’

Marina pointed out in a recent interview with PopJustice that Electra Hearts is a story, told in a “cinematic 70s Americana-type film” format, which has been broken down into several parts for release.

She also revealed that:

Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself. My worst fear – that’s anyone’s worst fear – is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious.

Marina has been posting random statements and images hinting at the new album to the blog site Electra Heart for the past few weeks including the new video, which you can watch below.  A second track ‘Part 2’ will be posted on Monday the 15th at 4pm, with a third due out later in the year.
