Mark McGuinness has been one of State’s heroic photographers for a number of years now. Not only was some of his best work featured on the cover, and throughout, our Faces of 2015 publication in January – he also went to SXSW for State and covered Meltybrains? journey through Texas. His new exhibition expands on this and ‘Calling for Earl: Meltybrains? tour diary’ follows the band on their odyssey across Ireland, the UK, as well as America through the spring of 2015. The show is a visual diary of what life is like for a touring band, from sleeping on strangers floors to days of budget traveling and all the not so glamorous aspects of being on the road.
Even though Mark is one of the State family and we are liable to say good things about him, trust us, this is a guy you’re going to hear a lot more about in the next few years. His work ethic puts us to shame and his gifted eye for the photographic ‘decisive moment’ will be revealed at this exhibition.
The exhibition is launching this Wednesday night, 24th June at 6pm over in the Darc Space Gallery, 26 North Great George’s Street, Dublin 1. There will be the opportunity to purchase a copy of Meltybrains? new limited edition vinyl release ‘IV/Donegal’ which will be playing on the night as well as a limited edition photobook.
Naturally there’s be some cold and free refreshments on the night for you to enjoy.
The exhibition runs weekdays 10.00 – 17.30, and on Saturday: 12.00 – 15.00, until July 2nd.
