Two sad pieces of news from the music world tonight, with the passing of Mick Karn and Gerry Rafferty. Karn came to fame as the bass player with Japan, before going on to form Dalis Car with Peter Murphy from Bauhaus. A statement on his website reads as follows, “it’s with profound sadness that we have to inform you that Mick finally lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at 4.30pm today, 4th January 2011 at home in Chelsea, London. He was surrounded by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.”
Gerry Rafferty enjoyed a career spanning eight albums but was most famous for his hit ‘Baker Street’. He was admitted to hospital in November suffering from liver failure, a condition he was not to recover from.
