MP3: Bat For Lashes – ‘A Forest’ (The Cure cover)

Covering a band as iconic as The Cure is never an easy task especially when the original is so distinctive. Perhaps then Natasha Khan has made the feminine version of the song, very much in the vein of her own Fur and Gold material. Vocally, she strains the words adding eerie vocal effects and replaces the original’s ghoulish guitar with haunting harpsichord. She matches the atmosphere of The Cure’s song but makes it her own.

This cover is taken from Perfect As Cats: a tribute to The Cure album not released worldwide until October 28th through LA indie label, Manimal Vinyl. The charity album (to benefit Invisible Children) boasts 32 tracks from 32 artists ranging from Bat For Lashes to The Dandy Warhols to Indian Jewelry, Sarabeth Tucek and more as below. The album will be released as a limited deluxe double disc extensive liner notes on the bands as well as the charity’s cause. It will also be released on all digital formats.
