Might Be Giants – Marnie Stern

She shreds a guitar like AC/DC’s Angus Young does Ms. Stern. The riffs are frantic, the drums are jittery, the songs are complicated and her high-pitched voice fights to be heard amongst the din. It’s not every day you hear so much freneticism from just one person.

‘Transformer’ is an old-fashioned rock and roll beast, updated for 2008 and the video likewise. Double-necked guitars, soft-focus machine heads and dry ice. It’s two minutes and twenty two seconds of psychedelic guitar porn!

New Yorker Stern’s second album (deep breath) This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That is out now on Kill Rock Stars.

“The future is yours, so fill this part in.”
