Solar Bears are back in the studio, working on the follow-up to their sepia-toned fantasia of second album, Supermigration, but they’ve found time to release a one-off cut from their sessions so far. ‘Interzone’ is their tribute to the late actor/director Dennis Hopper, best known for 1969’s Easy Rider, but the song doesn’t harken back to some idealised outsider’s past. If anything, ‘Interzone’ initially sounds very contemporary, like a sinister phone alarm to be precise. After a shaky start it comes into its own as shimmering slice of motorik with a heavy, oscillating synth line and clattering percussion.
If its a sign of things to come on album #3, we can be sure the duo are doing the best to keep things moving and, most of all, interesting.
