New Year’s Eve Recommendations

As usual there’s an awful lot of musical fare on offer this New Year’s Eve but fear not, we here at State are on hand to provide you with a handy guide to how to spend the final moments of 2008. So, deep breath and away we go…

Super Extra Bonus Party / Adebesi Shank – Whelans, Dublin

Quite possibly the double bill of the night, bringing together two of the most innovative and downright thrilling live bands in the country right now. There, we said it…

Fight Like Apes / Le Galaxie – Roisin Dubh, Galway

Another strong pairing, with the unquestioned band of the year avoiding the capital for a jaunt with one of 2009’s ones to watch.

Ham Sandwich / The Kineticks – The Village, Dublin

Safe to say that it’s been a year to remember for Ham Sandwich for all sorts of reasons but nothing should detract from the fact that ‘Carry The Meek’ was one of the year’s best.

Rock The Hall – City Hall, Belfast

OK, kudos on getting headliners Supergrass and The Pigeon Detectives but we’re saying get there early for the home grown talent, especially General Fiasco and Fighting With Wire.

Anything we’ve missed? Let us know below. In the meantime, have a good one and see you on the other side….
