Incoming: Indiependence 2014 – Q&A With Mark from The Minutes

Cork’s Indiependence Festival kicks off in this weekend and for those of you still deliberating buying a ticket, allow us to grease the wheels a little bit with our Q & A with The Minutes‘ frontman Mark Austin. For those of you who can’t afford it, allow us to make that decision for you.

Who are your favorite artists from your hometown?

Thin Lizzy.

What’s it really like touring?

Like a holiday that goes on for about 6 weeks too long. Playing shows is great, the getting to and from is the boring part.

What’s your favourite city/town/venue to play?

Cant beat a hometown show, we’ve had some crackers in Whelans.

What’s your ideal festival line-up?

Us, Lizzy, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Tell us a tour story…

Once upon a time some van keys were misplaced in Germany ….. cue van window smashed, a fist shattered by punching a wall, lots of fights, blood, drinking to forget, reconciliation, remembering, found keys, stolen diesel and a eight hour drive to Berlin in winter with a smashed passenger window. All in one twelve hour period.

What has been your biggest achievement of 2014 so far?

Releasing our second record. It was a while coming but it feels good to let that albatross fly.

What was the worst piece of advice you were given?

Too many to mention.

What do you do to relax?

What are you reading?

David Byrne – How Music Works

Do you have a favourite YouTube video?

Old football clips keep me entertained or footage of bands in studio.

What website do you visit most? (discounting email etc)

The Guardian.

What is your favourite:

Record of the moment?

Mac Demarco – Salad Days

Song of the moment?

At the drive in – ‘Cosmonaut’

Lost classic song?

Fleetwood Mac – ‘Silver Springs’

Record label?

Wanzl Records

A new artist that you are most excited about?

The Wanzls

What was the last great gig you went to?

Bruce Springsteen – RDS dublin.

Worst show ever?

London – arriving 20mins before stage time on the back of a tow truck. Not good.

What should we expect from your Indiependence show ?

Redemption. Rock. And. Roll.

Tickets for Indiependence Festival are still available from the usual outlets.
