Screwball collaboration #2: Lou Reed and Metallica

I think we can start this one with a WTF?

You read it right. Lou Reed and Metallica, or Loutallica as PR has punned, are collaborating on an album called Lulu.

The project is based on the plays of German expressionist writer Frank Wedekind. Earth Spirit and Pandora’s Box tell a story of a young abused dancer’s life and are now collectively known as the Lulu Plays.

Lou Reed sketched out lyrics and music for a theatrical production in Berlin, and has since set about recording an album interpretation with Metallica in their recording studios in California. Read all about it here.

We wish we had a soundbite to share, in the meantime here are the unlikely collaborators performing ‘Sweet Jane’ at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – 25th Anniversary in New York back in 2009.
