State vs. Quarter Inch Collective gig this weekend with Simon Bird, Rhino Magic and Wiltz

The next State versus gig takes place this Friday at The Mercantile from 9pm. Cassette tape record label Quarter Inch Collective are our versus challengers on the night and they have selected three fine artists to represent them in Simon Bird, Wiltz and Rhino Magic.

As always, the gig is FREE. Facebook event is here.

Here’s a bit more about the bands:

Simon Bird is a 21-year old producer born in Somerset, England but currently living in Dublin. His brand of skewed electronica draws on drone, noise, black metal and instrumental hip-hop to create something entirely new. He has released five EPs to date this year, as well as an album with his side project, ۩ΔϟΔ۩.

Wiltz are a four-piece instrumental rock band from South Dublin. Formed in late 2010, Mark, Robin, Peter & Dave released their self-titled debut EP in May 2011. Their colourful and intricate instrumentals have seen them support acts like Lemuria, The James Cleaver Quintet and Alright The Captain in their short time together.

Rhino Magic is the spare-bedroom pop project of Wexford-native, Joseph Kielthy. His charmingly melancholic lo-fi indie songs are filled with a unique blend of humour and sadness which makes them irresistible. After releasing an EP in 2010, the first Rhino Magic album was launched with a sold-out show in Hello Operator in June 2011.
