Another addition to State’s coverage of festivals abroad (SXSW, Coachella, Primavera) is The Great Escape festival in Brighton from the 15th to the 17th of May. The festival features a bulging line-up of talent with over 200 bands playing in 25 venues. This year the festival also has a focus on artists from Norway.
The list of bands playing include: The Ting Tings, The Futureheads, The Fratellis, Laura Marling, Friendly Fires, Vashti Bunyan, Vetiver, Telepathe, Alphabeat, Times New Viking, Strange Death Of Liberal England, Fanfarlo, Sunset Rubdown, Okkervil River, Bon Iver, Yeasayer, Born Ruffians, Broken Records, Saul Williams, Frightened Rabbit,A Place To Bury Strangers, Vampire Weekend, Iron and Wine, Young Knives, These New Puritans, Lightspeed Champion, Crystal Castles, The Hold Steady, The Subways, Black Mountain, Black Lips, Wiley, Cadence Weapon and beatboxer Beardy Man.
Every year, The Great Escape puts a different country under the spotlight and this year it is the turn of Norway. Ida Maria, The Lion Heart Brothers, Ungdomskulen and Sigh & Explode are due to perform.
There will also be a convention aspect to the festival with talks on a multitude of topics concerning The Future of Folk, British Asian Music, Hip-Hop, Online vs Print, Music Management and Publishing.
