Seminal noise pop band The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced the reissue of their entire back catalogue. All six studio albums will be re-released in November by Demon Music Group in deluxe format, double CDs and DVDs featuring over 30 tracks of B-sides, demos, live recordings and packaged with a glossy booklet on each.
Lead by brothers Jim and William Reid, The Jesus and Mary Chain formed in Glasgow in 1983 – they were influenced by early punk as well as The Velvet Underground and the pop of The Shangri-Las following Phil Spector’s Wall Of Noise approach. Alan Magee signed them to Creation Records in 1984 and they had an indie smash hit with ‘Upside Down’ the following year (at the time when a teenage Bobby Gillespie was their drummer, famously playing standing up.)
Psychocandy was released in November 1985 and would become an instant celebrated classic.
The career of The Jesus and Mary Chain has always been surrounded by personal dramas, revolving band members, break ups and make ups – yet they managed to release five more studio records.
