The Verve split.. again.

The Guardian reported yesterday that The Verve have broken up yet again. For the third time. After a successful headline slot at Glastonbury and a respectable-enough album Forth helping them get back on track, it seems to be all off again.

A few months ago guitarist Nick McCabe said the band were on “holiday” but now it seems they have given up the ghost altogether. McCabe and bassist Simon Jones are apparently no longer talking to Richard Ashcroft and the a source close to the band told the Sunday Mirror that they have not spoken to Ashcroft since last year. “As far as Nick and Simon are concerned the Verve no longer exists,” the source said. “They think Richard was just using the reunion as a vehicle to get his solo career on track.”

In the meantime, the two have started a new band The Black Ships with Goldfrapp’s violinist Davide Rossi and drummer Mig Shillace. They are currently recording an album.

  • Are we surprised? That album wasn’t the best.

  • I’m a tad disappointed, as I was big into urban hymns has a teenager. Wouldn’t have minded catching them live at a festival or summit for sentimental reasons, but then I guess if I wasn’t prepared to pay for a standard gig i obviously wasnt that bothered. They are a bit like a bad soap opera those lads…

  • Love is Noise was great though wasn’t it?

  • Will those feet in modern times, walk upon soles that are made in China?? Classic..

  • Is that the line? Jesus..

  • That’s the opener yeah… I thought it was quite witty, but I do have a weird sense of humour.

their first album back in the day was good, most other stuff was disappointing after that, as for LIS? awful lads, did anyone else notice that he suddenly had a yankie accent for no apparent reason…well other than to sell records in the states…which they didn’t hence the re-breakup
