Tradfest films at the IFI

The Temple Bar TradFest, now in its sixth year, will run from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th of January hosting an array of up and coming acts, trad sessions, street performance and shows in Christ Church Cathedral. Acts taking part this year include Clannad, Brendan Power, Tim Edey, Jackie Daly Matt Cranitch, Beoga and Ciorras.

To celebrate the IFI are presenting a programme of rarely-seen documentaries from their archive including films from the 60s and 70s as well as a more recent documentary providing the backstory to one of the star turns for TradFest 2011, Clannad – the band will attend the screening and take part in a question and answer session afterwards.

Irland – Lieder Für Trämer, Musik Für Rebellen made by Margit Wagner captures Germany’s fascination with Irish music – the screening will be introduced by radio presenter and TradFest Artistic Director Kieran Hanrahan.

Philip Donnellan’s documentary The Pilgrimage of Ti Jean tells the story of French-Canadian master fiddler ‘Ti Jean’ Jean Carignan’s trip to Ireland to track down the music of his lifelong idol, Sligo-born fiddler Michael Coleman, and presents a masterclass in his remarkable fiddle technique along the way accompanied by a young John Faulkner and Dolores Keane. Musician John Faulkner will reflect on the visit and introduce the screening.
