Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird reunite to perform Maxinquaye

Here’s a reunion to get excited about. Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird are to reunite on stage for the first time in 15 years. Martina Topley-Bird added vocals to four of Tricky’s early LPs including Nearly God, Pre-Millennium Tension and Angels with Dirty Faces. However, the duo first got together (musically) on Maxinquaye, a seminal trip-hop album spawned from the Bristol scene in the early ’90s, the record fused hip-hop, soul, dub, rock and electronica. It was also one of our first introductions to Alison Goldfrapp, who sang on ‘Pumpkin’.

Tricky released five more albums, most recently Mixed Race in 2010. Martina released four solo records, Some Simple Place was also released in 2010. The pair are going back to where it all began, performing Maxinquaye at the Sundance Festival in London as well as Manchester and Bristol homecoming show.
