UCC Music Department’s Gamelan course open day this Thursday

University College Cork’s School of Music & Theatre is holding an open day on September 1st for those interested in finding out about a course where they can perform with the Gamelan ensemble – a concert of new music, dance and traditional Javanese music at the Cork Opera House.

Aimed at aspiring musicians, closet composers or someone with a keen interest in music looking to develop musical knowledge, the course begins soon at UCC Music Department. All are welcome to the two-year diploma which offers credits towards the degree course. Classes start in September on Tuesday nights for 24 weeks.

The course includes modules on the history of music, aural recognition, music criticism, and performance (from the Indonesian Gamelan through to African and Indian traditional music).A high level of music proficiency or is starting from the beginning, everyone will be in the same boat when it comes to trying out and performing ón the only full Gamelan set in Ireland!

There is an open evening for the Certificate and Diploma in Music at UCC on Thursday, September 1 at 6pm.
